
Family & Special Purpose Housing
The Family & Special Purpose Housing portfolio consists of different programs: Direct Rentals, Rent Supplement, and Affordable Housing. Eligibility for these programs are based on annual income, housing need, level of assets and ability to pay rent.
Direct Rentals
Publicly owned apartments, duplexes and single family homes ranging from 1 to 3 bedroom units. Rent is based on 30% of household income.
Eligibility
- Unable to acquire or maintain adequate or suitable housing without paying more than 30% of total income.
- Total annual household income must be less than the established core need household income limit (HIL).
- All property, cash & liquid asset value must not exceed $25,000. Asset exclusions include necessary clothing, furnishings, and vehicles worth less than $4,000.
Private Landlord Rent Supplement
The Private Landlord Rent Supplement program is a provincially funded program which allows families and individuals to rent from a private landlord. Rent is based on 30% of household income. Landlords receive monthly subsidy payments based on the difference between tenants calculated rent and the market rent for the unit.

- Unable to acquire or maintain adequate or suitable housing without paying more than 30% of total income.

- All property, cash & liquid asset value must not exceed $25,000. Asset exclusions include necessary clothing, furnishings, and vehicles worth less than $4,000.
Direct Rent Supplement Assistance
The Direct Rent Supplement Assistance program is a provincially funded program which allows families and individuals to remain in their current private rental. Rent is based on 30% of household income. Monthly rent subsidy is paid directly to the tenant.

Affordable Housing
Privately owned affordable apartment buildings ranging from bachelor to 3 bedroom units, including 25 wheelchair accessible units. Rental rates are 10% or more below market rents in the community.
